New Delhi, September 9, 2025: The Indian Steel Association (ISA) conferred the prestigious Gender Diversity Award 2025 on Ms Laxmi Murmu, from Jindal Stainless’ Jajpur plant. The award was presented to her by Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries & Steel, Govt of India, Shri Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, at the 6th edition of ISA Steel Conclave held in New Delhi. Ms Murmu was recognised for her leadership, inclusive mindset, and contribution in creating an equitable workplace in the operationally intensive setting of a manufacturing plant.

Ms Laxmi has been working with Jindal Stainless, India’s largest stainless steel manufacturer, for the past seven years. Her determination and commitment to learning propelled her into operating heavy machinery such as excavators, JCBs, cranes, and forklifts—roles rarely held by women in the manufacturing industry. During this time at Jindal Stainless’ Jajpur plant, she has earned multiple awards for outstanding performance in safety and operations. Her dedication and discipline set her apart, establishing her as a skilled and dependable professional in a male-dominated environment. Beyond her professional responsibilities, Ms Laxmi actively advocates for diversity and inclusion, encouraging other women to pursue industrial roles.
A mother of three and the sole breadwinner of her family, she has continuously defied societal expectations to provide financial support for her family. She serves as an inspiring role model for many women aspiring to make their way into the industry.

Ms Laxmi Murmu is the third woman from Jindal Stainless to be recognised by ISA, following Ms Minu Mohanta’s and Ms Sagarika Soren’s recognition in 2023 and 2024 respectively. ISA’s 6th edition was marked by attendance from government dignitaries, whose leadership and vision continue to guide the industry towards growth and global competitiveness, as well as industry leaders, who are shaping the future of the sector.
