Limited to the usage in the kitchens earlier, stainless steel is now increasingly making its presence felt in places we could not have imagined a decade ago. Perhaps this is the reason why stainless steel has been the fastest growing metal for over two decades. Today, stainless steel has already established itself in sectors like automotive, railway & transport (ART), architecture, building & construction (ABC), chemical & petrochemical industries, capital goods, kitchenware and food processing industries. Increasing number of sectors such as plumbing and overhead water tanks are also realising the advantage of shifting to stainless steel. This environment-friendly metal can be easily recycled; in fact every stainless steel product contains at least 60 per cent recycled content, which is why this has been rightly called as the “Green Metal”.
